WFS services
Web Feature Services (WFS) is a standard protocol for downloading geospatial vector datasets to the Internet and is generated by a map server using data from a GIS database.
The author of the WFS specification is the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The latest version of WFS is 2.0, released on November 2, 2010. More information on WFS is available from the OpenGeospatial Consortiumweb page.
The Latvian Geospatial Information Agency WFS is a direct connection to the database. When downloading, the user can specify an area that requires vector data.
Data is downloaded from the server to the OGC standard GML (Geography Markup Language) format.
WFS services are supported by GIS software ArcGIS from version 9.3, and QGIS from version v1.6, as well as MapInfo and GeoMedia software.
LGIA offers freely available WFS services for the following data:
- Mapping data of land cover and its changes in the period from 2006 to 2012 year
- Land cover data for 2012
- Corrected land cover data for 2006
- Geographical network data according to the requirements of Annex I of the INSPIRE Directive in the LKS-92 TM coordinate system
WFS services have also been created for Topographic maps in the scale of 1:10 000, as well as for the data of the Geodetic Information System. You need to use this service request and enter into an agreement regarding the use of data in accordance with the conditions for the use and payment of data specified in regulatory enactments.
